Your Family in an Emergency

Your most important obligation during an emergency is to protect your family and to be sure they are OK. Be sure your family has enough food and water to last several days and a safe and warm place to stay. After you have done that, then you can assist the public through amateur radio, but be sure your family has your contact information while you are away from them. By putting your family first, you may not be available as an amateur radio operator for a period of time. This is OK. Take care of your family, and then volunteer as an amateur radio operator if the agencies and organizations affected by the disaster request help from amateur radio stations.
